Health and Safety Committee Training Course - Commonwealth

Course Overview

This course aims to provide participants with relevant information about Health and Safety Committees (HSC), including the legislative basis (Commonwealth) for the establishment and functions of an HSC and obligations to HSC members. Participants will be given the opportunity to explore HSC roles and responsibilities and how consultation and communication can contribute to the effective functioning of an HSC.

Target Audience

The target audience for participation in this course includes all HSC members under the CommonwealthWork Health and Safety Act 2011. This may include Managers, Supervisors, Health and Safety Representatives, worker and others with safety responsibilities.

Course Delivery Options

Training will be conducted by one of our experienced trainer assessors who have work health and safety industry experience, strong knowledge of relevant legislation. All evaluations in this course are open book, and participants will have access to all learning materials such as legislation, codes of practice and participant guides. Course Content

The intent of training is to develop HSC members skills so they can support and contribute to the effective functioning of the HSC. The course content will include:

  • The legislative framework.

  • Functions of an HSC.

  • Role and responsibilities.

  • Consultation and communication.

Course Objectives

The course is intended to provide participants with an understanding of the functions of a HSC to assist HSC members to carry out their role and functions under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011. The specific learning objectives of the course include:

  • Outline the legislative basis for establishing an HSC.

  • Describe the role, composition and functions of an HSC.

  • Describe the obligations and duties to an HSC.

  • Describe the role of an HSC in establishing effective representation and consultation in the workplace.

  • Describe the nature of the consultation process between the PCBU and workers.

Pre-requisites

  • HSC members under the CommonwealthWork Health and Safety Act 2011.

Entry Requirements

  • For verification of identity, photo identification must be presented to the trainer at the commencement of the course.

  • Sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to complete the course (completion of forms, written tasks).

  • Ability to participate in group discussions and activities.

  • Comfortable, practical clothing, closed in shoes.

Award / Qualification

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attendance Certificate.
